Summer Bliss: Reflect, Refresh, and Rejoice

As daylight lingers and the sun's warmth surrounds us, there's an undeniable touch of magic in the air. Summer, with its vibrant energy and possibilities, invites us to slow down, reflect, and appreciate the beauty around us. However, for many of us (myself included) transitioning into summer brings a mix of excitement and hesitation.

To be completely honest, even though I may seem organized and put-together, I often struggle with procrastination. Without a solid plan in place, my good intentions tend to stay just intentions. Three summers back, my partner and I had big dreams of exploring neighboring states, but life got busy, and those adventures never came to fruition. We also aimed to go hiking more last summer, but unfortunately, not a single hike happened.

This summer, I am determined to break this cycle. I've decided to intentionally map out a few weekends—nothing too elaborate, just one weekend every month dedicated to activities we've been wanting to do. My weekdays are typically full of a strict routine, and by the time the weekend rolls around, I yearn for some spontaneity. Yet, without a plan in place, those weekends tend to slip by without any lasting memories.

June, with its ideal combination of extended daylight and balmy evenings, offers a prime chance to rejuvenate and approach the season with purpose. This insight inspired me to introduce to you the 3Rs: Reflect, Refresh, and Rejoice!

 Reflect: Embracing Growth and Gratitude

Looking back and reflecting on our growth can be really impactful. As we approach the halfway point of the year it's an opportunity to take a break and think about how we've come. Sometimes we don't realize how much progress we've actually made and the moments that have influenced us since the start of the year. Taking a moment to reflect can help us see the successes and big changes we've experienced.

Reflect on Gratitude

Gratitude has a remarkable way of shifting our perspective and bringing positivity into our lives. Here are a couple of questions to guide your reflection:

  • What are three things you're grateful for this year?

  • How have you grown since January?

By recognizing our growth and appreciating our progress we can develop a sense of gratitude for the path we're on.  Reflecting on what we've accomplished, even the little victories, inspires us to keep pushing towards our aspirations.

Reflect on Personal Growth

Personal growth isn't always about monumental changes; it's often found in the subtle shifts and improvements we make along the way. Consider these prompts to reflect on your personal growth:

  • What challenges have you overcome?

  • What new skills or habits have you developed?

Reflecting on your accomplishments enables you to acknowledge your strength and flexibility. It serves as a reminder that despite challenges you have persisted in developing and maturing.

Refresh: Revitalize Your Mind, Body, and Spirit

Summer is synonymous with renewal and rejuvenation. It's a season that beckons us to refresh our minds, bodies, and spirits. Whether it's through exploring new hobbies, embarking on a wellness journey, or taking a much-needed getaway, summer offers countless opportunities to recharge.

Pick Up a New Hobby

Hobbies are a wonderful way to infuse joy and excitement into our lives. They provide an outlet for creativity and relaxation, offering a perfect balance to our daily routines. Have you been harboring a secret desire to try something new? Perhaps it's painting, gardening, or learning a musical instrument. Now is the time to take that first step.

If commitment feels daunting, start small. Sign up for a single class or a workshop to test the waters. The goal is to find something that sparks joy and ignites your passion.

Plan a Refreshing Getaway

There's something undeniably refreshing about a change of scenery. Even a short trip can work wonders for your mental health and well-being. Consider planning a weekend getaway to explore nearby nature trails, visit a quaint town, or unwind at a cozy Airbnb. Immersing yourself in a new environment can provide a much-needed break from the routine and offer fresh perspectives.

It can be easy to overlook the importance of celebration. Rejoicing in our achievements, no matter how small, and savoring the simple joys of summer can bring immense happiness and fulfillment.
